Wicked Campervan Trip Options: Pickup & Dropoff in Puerto Varas only
To be in Puerto Varas and its surroundings is to have the chance to drive along roads embedded on nature. Perfect nature and landscapes everywhere. And it’s also being near of some of the best gastronomic places in the country. Having the chance to tour around in your campervan, with the freedom to decide what to do, with the possibility to visit little forgotten towns, amazing rivers, lakes and forests, can only be better if you do it on your Wicked campervan!
The Puerto Varas Loop has been designed to give you in a little time a lot of different and great experiences. From visiting the great natural landscapes near the town, to practice nautical sports on the waters of the Llanquihue Lake during the day and try some of the best handcrafted beer and traditional Chilean or German food at night.
But it’s not all about Puerto Varas. Chile has a lot more to offer. You can also go to Llanquihue (the town) and Frutillar, both places well known for their pastries, their landscapes, beaches and activities to enjoy during the year. A good thing is that between Puerto Varas, Llanquihue and Frutillar there are only 25Km (15 Miles), which makes it easier to plan your day. Both, Llanquihue and Frutillar are good places for practicing water sports like fly fishing, waterskiing, sailing or swimming.
Now, to really become one with your campervan and live the real Wicked experience, you have the chance to drive along the edge of Llanquihue Lake to Alerce Andino National Park and Llanquihue National Reserve.
In the first park you’ll see (if lucky) protected animals like Pudú (small deer) the Cóndor or the “Monito del Monte” (Dromiciops) plus lots of native forests of Alerces (Larches). In this park you have five trekking routes: Laguna Sargazo, Laguna Fría, Laguna Chaiquenes, Laguna Triángulo and Huillifotén. To enter you have to pay $3 USD (give or take). Kids go for free.
At Llanquihue National Reserve you will also find a route for trekking that leads to Calbuco volcano and that you can complete in about four hours. Depending on the time of the year and the weather conditions, you can even climb the volcano! Entering the reserve is for free so the only thing you have to do is to drive your campervan!
Now that you’re exploring nature of this part of Chile, you can complete the circuit by going to Vicente Perez Rosales National Reserve. This Reserve is the oldest in Chile, and it has more than 200 thousand hectares of wild forests, the great Todos los Santos Lake, the Petrohué river and protected species of animals like Pudú or the Cóndor. Also you can visit the little towns of Petrohué and Peulla.
Inside the park you’ll find nine trekking routes, and there are camping areas, beaches (surrounding the lake) and even little stores to buy souvenirs.
But parks and volcanoes is not everything you’ll find in this part of the country. If you drive west, you have the chance to visit little towns like Purranque, Fresia and Los Muermos (and even smaller towns between them) where you can share a moment with the people, eat typical chilean food and take a rest from all the adventure you’ve been living.
Either you choose to go to the cordillera and its lakes, or to the coast to walk through the trails embedded on the coastal range, find hidden beaches or share a great time with the locals, your experience in this Puerto Varas Loop has every ingredient to be the best one you’ve ever lived!
