So you came looking for the beauty of the south? Well, then prepare yourself to look everywhere and find more and more perfection arround you! Get ready to live a unique experience that will take you to lakes, rivers, volcanoes and endless native forests with your Wicked Campervan!

The circuit between Puerto Varas and Chiloé will become one of your favorites. That’s for sure. First, you will not want to leave Puerto Varas before driving arround the great Llanquihue Lake, or visiting the Saltos del Petrohué with its rapids of turquoise waters.

This area is a perfect spot for practicing flyfishing, trekking, rafting and horseback riding in the surroundings of Llanquihue Lake or near one of the volcanos you Ìll see there: Calbuco or Puntiagudo, and the amazing “Cerro Tronador”.

Before leaving the area heading south to Chiloé, you can go southeast to pay a visit at Alerce Andino National Park. If you like photography, there’s a good place for it. You can see animals like Pudú (a small native deer), Pumas (cougars, the animal kind) or even maybe the mighty Cóndor! Also, you’ll be surrounded by forest consisting of millenary Alerces.

You can also go to the coast and visit Maullín, a town located in the edge of the river with the same name. There you will have the chance to try some of the best tipical food of southern Chile and relax with the landscapes. In any case, keep in mind that Maullín is further south Puerto Montt (not that much) and Puerto Montt is one of the places where you can hire a Ferry service to go to Chiloé, crossing the Chacao canal, and arriving to Ancud, Quellón and other cities where you will be enchanted.

You can also catch a ferry at Pargua, at southeast of Maullín. There you will navigate for about half an hour until you arrive to Chiloé.

Chiloé has many singular symbols of its culture, but without any doubt, one of the most peculiar is known as “Minga”, which is the process to change a house from one place to another. Yes, they lift the house and move it to the area where the owners want it to be, using bulls and trunks. If you have the chance to cooperate then do it! It’s gonna be fun and then you’ll be part of a party with wine, Curanto (a dish made in a hole, covered with leafs and made of pork, seafood, sausages and more) and hours of stories and great moments.

Drive south and visit the towns of Quemchi and Dalcahue, plus the Chiloé National Park and the Tepihueico Park, both located on the west side of the island and full of native forests and animals.

You have to keep driving south through route 5 to visit two great destinies inside Chiloé. One is the city of Quellón the point where the Panamerican Highway comes to an end (finally, after going through most of the continent, starting from Alaska).

One great option of adventure once you’re there, is to go on a long sailing circuit (six hours max.) to observe flora and fauna. You can even have the chance to observe blue whales!

If you want to get inside millenary forests go west of Quellón, where you’ll find Tantauco Park, one of the 25 most biodiverse places in the world and the second great destiny you have on this part of the trip.

You can stay anywhere you want in Chiloé. One great thing is that you’ll find lots of places where to stop on your campervan and enjoy the sensation of being totally, completely and absolutely free.

Once you have been at Tantauco Park and the city of Quellón, you can start the road back to Puerto Varas, visiting maybe for the second time some place you liked or entering small roads where you’ll feel like you’re the last person in the world, surrounded by nature, away from any sign of civilization, and closer to yourself in every moment.

You can also catch a ferry from Quellón to Chaitén and, with the exception of January and February, navigate from Chaitén to Puerto Montt (on a five hour trip). If its January or February, you have also the chance to drive from Chaitén to Caleta Gonzalo (at north of Pumalín Park, which you can visit of course) and from Caleta Gonzalo go back to Puerto Montt to drive from there to Puerto Varas.

As you can see, your road back can be just as exciting as the first part of the trip!
