Wicked Campervan Trip Options: Pickup in Santiago & Dropoff in Puerto Varas
You’re about to live the time of your life! Drive your Wicked Campervan south from Santiago and enjoy the landscapes and everything Chile has to offer among the Cordillera de los Andes and the Pacific Ocean, separated just by a few kilometers! Visit National Parks, the best beaches for surfing, amazing ski slopes, volcanoes, lakes, forests and more than you can imagine to live the experience!
You’re gonna drive more than a thousand kilometers of fun, hot spots for practically every adventure sport you can name and unforgettable days and nights. Once you leave Santiago you’ll realize Chile can be absolutely different depending on which place you choose to go.
Your goal is to go to Puerto Varas from Santiago, but this trip can’t be considered as completed without visiting some of the places we’re gonna tell you now.
First, if you like wine, you should go to the wine route located at the Curicó Valley. There are 16 vineyards waiting for you to walk through its facilities, learning about the process of making wine and tasting some of the best Chile has to offer in this matter.
From there, go to Radal Siete Tazas (Seven Cups). A National Reserve with seven natural pools, one feeding the other with water and surrounded by forests and wildness. This place is perfect for relaxing and for making amazing photos. Later, from Radal Siete Tazas keep going south to visit another great location for nature lovers: Altos del Lircay National Reserve, where you can swim and practice trekking, climbing, horseback riding and a lot more!
Once you leave Altos del Lircay, drive through Route 5 so you can get to the Termas de Chillán Center (Hotsprings) one of the most popular ski and hotsprings center in the country, where you’ll have 28 ski slopes and arround 10 hectares of skiable surface!! Also, when in Chillán, you must try every tipical food you can! Longanizas (special sausage), the “Arrollado Huaso” (a special preparation of pork meat) or the famous “Caldillo de Congrio” (Conger soup), perfect dish if you have a hangover (that you will possibly, at least once in this trip, have).
Your next stop should be near the city of Los Angeles to drive east, to Antuco Ski Center (seasonal). The center is located 82 kilometers from the city and, even if there’s no snow you still must go, there are other options like trekking. You’re gonna love it! Indeed, it was nominated to be considered as one of nature’s seven wonders worldwide. Later keep going south, heading to Temuco. Near Temuco you can visit one of the most famous places among every one who has handled a Wicked Campervan in this zone: The Conguillio National Park, where you can practice trekking, snowmobile ride, winter navigation (seasonal) and take a short nature photography workshop. Near Conguillío you have two more National and Natural Reserves to visit (Galletue Lake and Alto Bíobío).
One of the characteristics of Chile is that you will never get bored. There’s so much to see, so much to know, its people, the landscapes and amusement everywhere that it doesn’t matter how much you drive, there will be always something that will leave you breathless. As an example you can also go to Valdivia National Reserve or Valdivia Coastal Reserve, both places known for its great variety of flora and fauna. As an abstract, in this area you can drive and visit (for sleeping, having fun, doing sports, taking photos, go crazy, etc) the Mocho Coshuenco Volcano, Huilo Huilo Reserve, San Pablo de Tregua Reserve, Villarrica National Park, Villarrica National Reserve and the Villarrica Volcano. Are you looking for snow? Well, come on winter season and visit Villarrica Volcano Ski Center. Go swim at Lago Caburga and chill out at San Luis Hotsprings or Palguin Hotsprings. Just choose your destiny and drive through this corner of the earth on your camper van!!
You are really near one of the stars when it comes to popular places to visit: The Seven Lakes District. Enjoy nights and days of the circuit made by Puerto Fuy, Coñaripe and Panguipulli, the three towns located right inside the heart of the area. Get amazed looking at the saphire blue lakes Riñigüe, Panguipulli, Pirihueico, Neltume, Pillaifa, Calafquén and Pullinque. Drive along roads surrounded by forests and crowned with volcanoes and lakeside beaches with sand actually made of Lava!
Further south, you’ll find a little loop arround Ranco Lake, a deep blue water lake, big enough to make you forget it’s a lake and quiet enough to make you remember you’re far from the noice and crazyness of the big cities. Also, heading south, visit the impressive and enormous Puyehue Lake, Puyehue National Park and Puyehue volcano. Practice water sports, climb, go hikking or relax at the hotsprings you’ll find there.
Now, for the last pat of this trip, you have this destinies: Go do trekking at Calbuco Volcano, inside the Llanquihue National Reserve; visit the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, the Osorono Volcano (pretty amazing one) and the quite, nice and peacefull Llanquihue Lake, where you’ll find (at the West side of the lake) the town of Frutillar. Another hot spot when it comes to eat as much as you can just incredible food. Of course that’s not all, the idea is that you can enjoy Llanquihue Lake by doing water sports or just relaxing while watching the landscape.
Keep going south and you’ll arrive to Puerto Varas, where you still can do some more fun stuff like visiting Philipi Park (which offers a nice view of the city at night), Cochamó Valley, located at 93Km of Puerto Varas and where you can do free climbing, or the Todos Los Santos Lake, full of emerald colored water!
